'Cake of the Week' on BBC Rado Wiltshire!

Hi there,

We were pleased to be asked to feature on Sue Davies 'Cake of the Week' on BBC Wiltshire Radio on Tuesday. I had a nice chat with her to explain all about the shop and cafe, and then I disclosed our very popular Banana Loaf Cake recipe (which always seems to go down well in the cafe and the shop).

It was good fun being on the radio, and hopefully some of our regulars might have heard!

Here is the link if you want to have a listen (we're about 30 minutes into the show):

Taster Day - Saturday 1st September

Hi All,

I hope everyone is enjoying this lovely summer weather - our sausages, burgers and kebabs have certainly been flying out of Bernie's counters so I'm guessing there have been many BBQ's on the go recently!

Everything is well on the farm. We had to get the vet out last week as one of our cows was having trouble calving. However, we're pleased to report that, with a little help from the vet, two healthy calves were born. Its quite unusual for cattle to have twins so its always a nice surprise :) I will endeavour to get some photos of the new arrivals on here as soon as possible.

I wanted to let you all know about our Taster Day that we are holding on Saturday 1st September. We have a number of our local producers attending (including Marshfield Ice Cream, The Bay Tree, Katie Pearn, Chocolate Frost and Wiltshire Tea) and samples will be available of all their lovely produce. We will also have lots of samples of our own grown meat from the butchery counter.

We're hoping it will be a friendly day where our lovely customers can have the chance to taste some of the produce they have not yet tried. If this is something you think you might like then come along any time on the Saturday between 9:30am and 5:30pm.

I look forward to seeing you there :)

Settling In...

We've been open for 6 weeks now and we are settling into the swing of things. We are very pleased with all the local support we have had and its really nice to see so many familiar faces each week.

We have introduced a loyalty scheme where for every pound spent you receive a point that is worth a penny. A good way to save up points for Christmas :)

After the rave reviews received for our home made Banana Loaf Cake, we have now started making Lemon Drizzle Cake to sell in the shop, and hope everyone enjoys it as much as we did!

Hope to see you soon :)

Open!!!

Hi there,

It's been a while since I last blogged as we've been so busy since the shop opened its doors to customers. We have been so pleased with the response we have received from local people and its been a pleasure seeing returning customers :)

We have been enjoying some beautiful weather and have had lots of people dropping into the cafe for refreshments. We are getting some wooden picnic tables for the (hopefully) sunny months to come so people can enjoy their delicious Marshfield Icecream out in the sun!

Our butchery counter has been very popular and we've had lots of lovely comments from people saying how much they have enjoyed the flavoursome meat served up by our friendly butcher Bernie.

All in all we've been very pleased with how the first few weeks have gone and are looking forward to welcoming new and returning customers :)

4 days to go...

The stock has started arriving so the display tables we've built are getting plenty of use!

Tuesday 1 May 2012

9 days to go...

We're amazed at how different the barn looks now to when we started. Here are a couple of photos showing the cafe area as it used to look:

...and how it's looking now:

As you can see we still have a bit of work to do before we open, but we're very pleased with how it has progressed :)

Countdown to Opening!

Hi there,

As we're now on the countdown to opening (only 10 days to go!) I thought it might be interesting to illustrate how the hay barn has changed since we started this project (quite a lot!)

Here is a photo of how the barn looked when we first started work on the conversion:

Check back over the next few days and I''ll be posting more recent photos up until we open :)

Spring

It's been lovely down on the farm in this unseasonal sunshine. Whilst it may feel like summer, I can safely say that spring has definitely sprung! We have a whole host of young stock on the farm at the moment including lambs, calves, piglets and goslings and they are thriving in this warm weather.

I'm also pleased to say that work on the shop is progressing well and we are hoping to have an official opening date very soon which is exciting! We're very much looking forward to welcoming everyone into the shop and cafe.

New Arrivals

Whilst we're all very busy converting the barn into the shop and cafe at the moment, life on the farm still goes on and we are welcoming this years new arrivals!

We also had our first quads today. Ewes ordinarily only have twins, and occasionally triplets, so quads are really quite unusual. This ewe has got her work cut out!:

With the lovely weather we've been having we've been able to put the young lambs out in the fields to enjoy the sunshine:
